Shipbuilding jobs secure inside UK
Labour’s Shadow Scottish Secretary, Margaret Curran MP, has used the final Scottish Questions before the referendum to highlight the importance of Scotland being part of the United Kingdom for the Scottish shipbuilding industry.
Questioning the Secretary of State for Scotland in the House of Commons, she said:
“In this week, when we celebrate the naming of HMS Queen Elizabeth, will he ensure people across Scotland are informed about the value of UK contracts to the shipbuilding industry? And does he agree with the shop stewards at Rosyth and on the Clyde that the best way to protect the shipbuilding industry in Scotland is to say no thanks in September.”
She also highlighted the support for the No campaign:
“When presented with the facts, most Scots do not want to turn their backs on the United Kingdom. The message of a strong Scotland with a strengthened Scottish Parliament is gaining support in every part of Scotland.”
