It's time for a Green Industrial Revolution
Our planet is facing a climate emergency while our country’s economy is stalling. We must act now.
Our plan for a Green Industrial Revolution will build clean energy for the many, kick-start growth and tackle climate change.
Declaring a climate emergency is not enough on its own. We need action to tackle this issue – we need a green industrial revolution. Scottish Labour is the only party that will end austerity in Scotland and invest to address the climate emergency.
Greener Energy Sources
Scotland has the potential to be a world leader in renewables. We support the bold and ambitious target of net zero emissions by 2045 at the latest, and will make sure that 60% of the UK’s electricity and heat comes from clean, renewable and low carbon sources by 2030.
Labour’s plans would harness that potential by building new clean-energy infrastructure.
Greener Ways to Travel
By improving public transport we can have more affordable rail fares, reduce emissions, improve air quality and speed up the daily commute by taking cars off the road. Labour will invest in public transport with public ownership of rail and bus companies.
Only Labour has committed to fully renationalise the railways, and Scottish Labour will extend free bus travel to under 25s, with a long term goal of universal free bus travel.
A Green New Deal
The climate crisis affects us all, yet it will be the poorest and most vulnerable who feel the effects the most. We will support a green New Deal to ensure the move to a carbon net zero economy means proper jobs and training for workers.
Labour’s plans for a green industrial revolution would harness Scotland’s potential and create 50,000 good, sustainable jobs in Scotland.
It's time for a Green Industrial Revolution.

The Green Industrial Revolution Campaign
The climate crisis affects us all regardless of wealth or power, that’s why together, we’re building Labour’s people-powered policy to meet the climate catastrophe head on. That’s why we’ve been asking you to share your ideas about how to build a new green economy that won’t leave communities or workers behind.
At our recent Green Industrial Revolution event in Ravenscraig, Richard Leonard kicked off our #GreenIndustrialRevolution campaign, and put forward a radical agenda for a fairer and greener country.
An amazing turnout for @ScottishLabour’s #GreenIndustrialRevolution event in Ravenscraig. Labour governments at Holyrood and Westminster will deliver thousands of new green jobs to protect our environment and rejuvenate communities. pic.twitter.com/auEZ6mQOZG

While the Tories threaten the very future of the UK, we are tapping into an understanding that the UK state needs to change if we are to secure Scotland’s place within it. https://t.co/LfiHK8I5Lf

I spoke to @ByTheManyScot at @scottishlabour’s #GreenIndustrialRevolution event in Motherwell yesterday. The labour movement is the only force in society that can deliver a socially just transition out of the climate crisis. https://t.co/w7OfpF8vpU
