Scottish Labour has accused the SNP of “broken promises” as new analysis shows it delivered 240,000 fewer NHS procedures than promised.

In its 2021 NHS Recovery plan, the SNP promised to increase the number of inpatient and day case procedures carried out to above pre-pandemic levels in a bid to cut lengthy waiting lists.

However, new analysis carried out by Scottish Labour has revealed it fell badly short – delivering 240,862 fewer appointments than promised over the course of four years.  

NHS waiting lists remain stubbornly high, with thousands of people still waiting years for inpatient and day case treatment.

Scottish Labour warned that the SNP must change track and deliver on its 2026 election promises.

Commenting, Scottish Labour Health spokesperson Jackie Baillie said “Scots are being badly let down by the SNP’s broken promises.  

“If the SNP had stuck to its word, thousands more people would have been treated.

“The SNP must break the habit of a lifetime and start delivering on its pledges.

“We need a real plan to boost the number of procedures taking place and drive down NHS waiting lists for good.”
