FAQs

When did nominations open? 

Nominations for the Leader of the Scottish Labour Party opened on 3 August and closed on 17 August.   

When will I receive my ballot? 

Ballots will be distributed to eligible members and affiliate supporters from Friday 28 August by email. If you have not provided an email or share an email with another member, a postal ballot will be issued.

Who is eligible to vote? 

Members and affiliated supporters who joined on or before 24 January 2026 are eligible to participate, provided your membership was fully paid-up by 5pm on 17 August.  

How will I spot the ballot email? 

The email will come from ‘Scottish Labour Party’, ([email protected]); the subject will be “Scottish Labour Party – Your ballot – Scottish Labour Leadership” 

What if I haven’t received the ballot email? 

  1. Add [email protected] as a safe sender. 
  1. Check your junk and/or spam folder. 
  1. Check that you have the right email address registered to your membership.   
  1. Check that only you are the only person whose membership is registered to that email.  
  1. If you have not received your email ballot by Wednesday 2 September visit Scottish Leader Leadership Re-issue (link to follow) to submit a ballot reissue request.  If you did not receive your postal ballot email, [email protected].  
  1. If you have already used the link above and still cannot locate your ballot, please contact [email protected]. 

Can I post a picture of my ballot paper online? 

To ensure the integrity of the ballot and the security of your details, we strongly advise you do not do this. Each ballot contains codes which are unique to you and can only be used once. By putting these online you risk someone else using your vote.  

Ballot timetable 

Friday 28 August: Ballots will begin to be sent out to all eligible members and affiliated supporters.

Monday 7 September (12 noon): Postal re-issue requests deadline

Thursday 10 September (12 noon): Email re-issue requests deadline

Thursday 17 September (12 noon): Ballot Closes

Saturday 19 September: Result announced
