Sangster Calls for Action as School Dissatisfaction Doubles
Scottish Labour has today called on the Scottish Government to take “urgent action” in schools as new data shows the level of dissatisfaction with schools has doubled since the SNP came to power.
The Scottish Household Survey: Satisfaction with Schools published today revealed that the level of dissatisfaction with the quality of schools has gone from 5% in 2007/2008 to 11% in 2025. The level of satisfaction has also gone down from 80% to 72% in that time.
Among households with a school-aged child satisfaction dropped from 90% to 80% and dissatisfaction has risen from 6% to 12%.
Commenting, Scottish Labour Education spokesperson Katherine Sangster said “The Scottish education system used to be the best in the world, but today’s report tells the story of slow decline in education under the SNP.
“Since the SNP came to power families are less satisfied with schools, our PISA scores are worse, the poverty related attainment gap remains just as wide.
“The fact that level of dissatisfaction in schools has more than doubled requires urgent action from the Scottish Government. That’s one in ten families not happy with the school they are dropping their children off at – our kids deserve better than that.
“This erosion of standards in education is not good enough – our ambition must be to make our schools the best in the world again.”
