Labour will create an affordable and reliable public transport system and deliver the transport infrastructure needed to keep our communities connected.
- Scottish Labour are committed to seeing locally controlled and owned bus services, with capped fares and integrated travel systems across our towns and cities. Labour will deliver this by empowering local government and ending the blank cheques for private bus companies. We would apply a value for money test to all funding, with conditions to maintain routes and services.
- Scottish Labour will use the opportunity of nationalisation to make ScotRail a success, protecting services and making permanent the removal of peak fares to help during the cost-of-living crisis.
- Scotland needs a proper ferry procurement strategy. Labour will develop a long-term plan to build resilience in Scotland’ ferry fleet, guarantee the ferries that islanders need, and support key jobs in the Scottish shipbuilding industry.
- Labour will address the state of Scotland’s roads with long-term commitments to upgrade key roads including the A9 and others so they are fit for purpose.
