Independence and Financial Security for the Third Sector

Anas Sarwar has pledged to end “political interference” with charities by giving the third sector greater independence and financial security.

The SNP has faced criticism recently for using government funding to strong arm charities into backing their positions.

Scottish Labour has said it will ensure charities can do their “invaluable” work without being subject to direct political pressure from government Ministers.

The party has pledged to deliver multi-year funding for charities to address uncertainty in the sector and allow them to focus on delivery.

Commenting, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said “This Easter Sunday charities all over Scotland will be doing fantastic work in their communities and they deserve a government that is on their side. 

“The truth is Scotland’s charities are being held back by an entitled and arrogant SNP government.

“It is crucial that Scotland’s charities can do their good work without fear of reprisals from the government, but that isn’t always the case under the SNP.

“A Scottish Labour government led by me will deliver a new deal for the third sector – giving them the political freedom and financial security they need to deliver for communities.

“Hardworking charities will no longer have to spend so much of their time worrying about next year’s funding.

“I will end the era of political interference and work in genuine partnership with our fantastic charities to help Scots and improve our country.

“To deliver change for our charities and our communities, elect a Scottish Labour government on May 7.”
