Scottish Labour’s Pothole Fund

Anas Sarwar has today unveiled new plans for a new £350 million pothole fund that will fix up to five million more potholes.

Scottish Labour has pledged to establish a new road repair fund worth £350 million over the next five years, which is estimated to be enough to fix nearly five million more potholes.

The funding would be repurposed from the active and sustainable travel budget, and it would be backed up by stronger oversight mechanisms and greater preventative maintenance to improve the condition of roads in the long term.

Anas Sarwar said the “sorry state” of Scotland’s roads is an example of how the SNP can’t get the basics right.

Scottish Labour has previously revealed that spending on local roads spending has plummeted by 13 per cent since 2010-11 as a result of SNP cuts to Council budgets.

Commenting, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said “After nearly 20 years of SNP government, Scotland’s roads are in a sorry state and potholes are causing misery on a daily basis.

“This SNP hopeless government cannot even get the basics right anymore.

“Scottish Labour will fix the SNP’s mess and repair the roads – delivering a £350 million boost to the roads budget and repairing nearly 5 million more potholes.

“In May we have a choice – more of the same with John Swinney and the SNP or a better future for our communities with a Scottish Labour government led by me.”
